Hi, my name is Lindsey.
I’m a clinical massage therapist specialising in remedial massage, manual lymph drainage, scar therapy and oncology massage. I draw on a variety of techniques to work holistically, looking at the body as a whole. I believe that everything is closely connected in the body and mind. Each massage is tailored specifically to your symptoms. My aim is to treat deeply and gently to help ease your symptoms and help you to gain a wonderful sense of health and wellbeing whilst reaching your personal goals.
I first became interested in massage in 1998 when I took an evening class in Indian head massage. I knew how relaxing it was to receive a massage, but I couldn’t believe how enjoyable and surprisingly relaxing it was to give a massage too! This led me to take further massage courses to learn more about this newfound passion.
Over the years I have lived overseas, had children and worked as a primary teacher whilst also keeping massage a part of my life.
My focus on clinical and remedial massage began in 2016 when I had a minor accident that left me with shoulder problems. Whilst visiting Geneva I was lucky enough to find a fabulous massage therapist who helped to greatly ease my pain and help my shoulder recover. I was amazed by her rather unique massage style and she recommended I study further with the massage school where she learnt her techniques. It is called Jing Advanced Massage Training and by amazing coincidence it is based close to me in Brighton! Since then I haven’t looked back and I studied clinical massage more intensively to BTEC level 6, the highest massage qualification possible in the UK. I now enjoy having massage in my life every day.
My interest in oncology massage began when cancer touched my family and I felt utterly helpless in the face of the pain of a loved one. I could see the importance of having a gentle and non medical touch that helps reduce stress and achieve a sense of wellbeing. I could also see some of its other benefits such as better sleep, improved bowel movements and pain reduction. These small moments of relief felt so important amongst all the intensive medication and treatment going on.
My interest in this field then spilled over into Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Scar Massage Therapy. MLD is a technique that helps clients who have suffered an accumulation of lymph after an injury or post surgery, for example after knee or hip replacement, liposuction or cosmetic surgical procedures and Scar Massage Therapy greatly complements my work by enabling me to support clients with recovering scars or long standing scars that have begun to cause pain from compensation patterns.
I have worked within the NHS at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in the chemotherapy suites and at a local chiropractor’s clinic. But, nowadays, I am most frequently working in my private treatment room in Hove and once a week I volunteer at the Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton, massaging people living with and beyond cancer.
I aim to create a safe, comfortable space that allows you to relax and enjoy the massage.
